Ms. Thomas began her career in 1976 by producing a play for the U.S. Bicentennial in response to the Ebony Magazine cover story, What Did Blacks Contribute? She traced the history of Black women in fashion from the Great Queens of Africa, Cleopatra, Nefertiti and Makeda to Aretha, The Queen of Soul.

In 1981, she premiered the play for the Black Women’s Forum, founded by, former Los Angeles 1st Lady, Mrs Ethel Bradley, Sentinel Newspaper Publisher Ruth Washington and Assemblywoman Maxine Waters. 

 

In 1983, she formed a touring company and, as director, her new group QUEENS of the Nile, NOW were invited to introduce Aretha Franklin at the Brotherhood Crusade’s Tribute to the Queen of Soul, performing on stage with Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson and Luther Vandross for a “sold out” Shrine Auditorium.

1983

Todd TorresA portrait of one of the most influential African thinkers of the 20th Century hangs in the porttrait gallery of the Martin L. King Jr. Chapel at Morehouse College.  In 1984, Ms. Thomas tribute in the entertainment field crossed over to education, and she presented a tribute for Dr. Chiekh Anta Diop at the 1st Nile Valley Conference at Morehouse College in Atlanta.

In 1986, Ms. Thomas joined a group of leading African American scholars called the Association for the Study of Classical African Civilizations (ASCAC) and led 1000 travelers to the Great Pyramids in Egypt, with QUEENS as the production.
