Since 1981, we have led the effort to introduce over 100 thousand urban area learners to ancient African history. We have been at the forefront of employing the arts as social studies access strategies.
Our Mission
Queens Historical Society mission is to help youth develop a positive identity, motivation to achieve and new respect for women and people of African descent through the acquisition of African royal history and culture. We are a non-profit organization and a City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services supported agency.
“It was clear to me that it was not a performance per se, that there was shared power of inter-generational cultural identity in everyone, and that all of us were “participant observers.” These were all elements of theory I have studied in cultural anthropology and ethnomusicology.”
